Dr Catherine Teh is a leader and pioneer in the field of Philippine modern liver pancreatobiliary surgery. She co- founded the Philippine Association of HepatoPancreatoBiliary Surgeon 2015 and served as the President from 2020 to 2021. Her profound interest and expertise in HPB surgery also includes minimally invasive approach. She is a founding and executive council member (the only female) of the International Laparoscopic Liver Surgery Society (ILLS) and also at the Asia Pacific Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Association. Actively involved in international affairs on HPB at the IHPBA, She is the founding and incumbent President of ASEAN Lap HPB Alliance. As one of the directors of the Philippine Association of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons, she is actively involved in education and training of safe surgery being a staunch advocate of their project - ZERO BILE DUCT INJURY. Being an innovator and early adopter, she is one of the proponents of the fluorescent guided surgery using indocyanine green enhancing safety and quality in hepatobiliary surgery. She serves as the Secretary of the International Society of Fluorescence Guided Surgery, Asia Pacific Chapter (ISFGS-AP). Currently, she is the Chief of the Section of Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery of the Makati Medical Centre since 2010, she also established the Liver Care Center of the Makati Medical Center in 2009, and headed this center til 2016. She became the first woman appointed as Chair of the Department of Surgery in National Kidney & Transplant Institute where she lead the renaissance of liver transplant, established the Liver Center of the NKTI in 2013 and became its first director.
