Jacques Marescaux, a renowned Professor of Surgery, is the visionary President and Founder of IRCAD, pioneering the Institute of Image-Guided Surgery (IHU Strasbourg). This groundbreaking institute revolutionizes surgery in the information era. He also established the European Institute for Telesurgery (EITS) to disseminate IRCAD's innovative work. Over 27 years, IRCAD trained 45,000 surgeons from 124 countries, gaining global acclaim. Mirror IRCAD institutes exist in Taiwan, Lebanon and Brazil, with plans for expansion, Rwanda, China, the United States and India. In 2000, IRCAD launched WeBSurg, a virtual online university broadcasting surgical interventions in multiple languages. Notably, in 2001, Professor Marescaux performed the first transcontinental laparoscopie surgery, "Operation Lindbergh," conducting it in Strasbourg while in New York. In 2007, he achieved another milestone with a scarless operation. His contributions include thousands of articles in prestigious medical journals. He received notable awards like the Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur and Commandeur de la Légion d'Honneur. An accomplished speaker, he delivered over 450 speeches worldwide, including at the Royal College of Surgeons in London, Stockholm Nobel Lecture, and Stanford University Fogarty Lecture.
